Chapter 2 - The Fall of the House of Sterling

The federal agents moved with terrifying synchronization, their dark jackets stamped with bold golden lettering that paralyzed the elite crowd. Julian stood up so fast his chair crashed backward against the parquet floor, the sharp clatter echoing through the suffocating silence of the Grandview Ballroom.
“This is a mistake!” Julian shouted, his face draining of all color as he brandished his useless black credit card like a broken shield.
“Do you know who my mother is? Do you know who I am?”
An agent stepped forward, holding a thick leather folder filled with blue-tinted financial indictments.
“We know exactly who you are, Julian Sterling,” the agent said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion.
“And we know every single shell corporation you and your wife utilized to siphon pension funds from the Sterling Logistics workers over the past four years.”
Chloe shrank back into her sparkly beige gown, her manicured hands trembling as she dropped her champagne flute. The crystal shattered into a thousand glittering pieces at her feet.
Across the room, Julian desperately refreshed his banking apps, watching in silent horror as account after account vanished into frozen voids. The total reached forty million dollars locked instantly by federal order.
Julian spun around, looking frantically for the familiar cream-colored satin dress of his mother. Margaret was nowhere to be found. She had vanished into the cool night air, leaving her ungrateful son and his toxic wife to face the wreckage of their own making.
“She did this,” Julian whispered, his voice cracking with a sudden, ugly realization.
“My mother locked the accounts.”
“Your mother,” the lead agent corrected calmly, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto Julian’s wrists, “is the primary witness who handed us the decryption keys to your entire offshore network.”
As Julian was dragged past the horrified stares of elite society members who had praised him just minutes before, Chloe screamed his name in absolute despair.

Julian’s eyes locked onto Chloe with murderous betrayal, realizing too late that his mother’s revenge had only just begun.
