Chapter 12 - The Courthouse Showdown

The federal courthouse steps swarmed with reporters, camera crews, and flashing strobe lights as the transport van pulled up to the curb. The heavy metal doors of the van swung open, and Julian stepped out into the harsh afternoon sunlight.
He no longer looked like a defeated prisoner. Clad in a crisp, borrowed suit provided by his legal team, Julian held his head high, a triumphant, arrogant smirk plastered across his face.
Microphones were thrust into his face from every direction as camera shutters clicked frantically.
“Mr. Sterling! Is it true the federal asset freeze has been lifted?” a reporter shouted over the din.
“The justice system recognizes the truth,” Julian announced loudly into the forest of microphones, raising a manicured hand to command attention.
“The politically motivated smears orchestrated against me have collapsed. Sterling Logistics is back under my legal leadership, and business will resume as normal immediately!”
He pushed past the media blockade, striding up the grand marble steps of the courthouse with the swagger of a man who believed he had cheated the gallows.
As he reached the heavy oak doors of the grand foyer, he stopped dead in his tracks.
Standing right in the center of the entryway, bathed in the natural light streaming through the massive arched windows, were Margaret and Elena.
Julian’s arrogant smirk faltered, his eyes darting suspiciously between his mother and the unfamiliar young woman standing beside her.
“What is this?” Julian sneered, stepping closer with a defensive posture.
“Mother, have you finally lost your mind completely? And who brought an uninvited spectator into a restricted government zone?”
Margaret did not blink. She stood tall in her charcoal wool coat, her expression carved from absolute ice as she looked down upon her ruined son with profound pity and disgust.
“Meet your sister, Julian,” Margaret said softly, her voice carrying easily across the cavernous marble hall.
“Elena Vance. And she holds the controlling shareholder rights that your emergency injunction forgot to calculate.”
Julian let out a sharp, hysterical laugh, shaking his head in sheer denial.
“Sister? What kind of senile delusion are you inventing now, Mother? I am your only son! The sole heir to the Sterling name!”
Elena stepped forward, her dark eyes locked onto Julian’s frantic expression. She raised a single manila folder containing the certified trust documents and the Zurich birth certificate.
“The law doesn’t care about your delusions, Julian,” Elena said coldly, holding out the papers for the federal bailiffs to witness.
“And neither do the corporate bylaws. You’re locked out, effective immediately.”
Julian’s face drained of all color. Before he could lunge forward in a blind rage, federal marshals stepped between them, locking their heavy handcuffs back onto his wrists.

As Julian screamed obscenities that echoed off the high vaulted ceilings, a quiet beep from the security console signaled that the forty-eight-hour injunction window had officially expired.
