Chapter 11 - The Breach

The shattered glass crunched loudly beneath polished dress shoes as a disheveled figure stumbled through the shattered security checkpoint. It wasn't an assassin or a radical protester; it was Julian’s high-priced defense attorney, breathless, sweating, and clutching a thick, emergency injunction order.

Federal marshals instantly drew their weapons, forming a protective barrier around Margaret and Elena before the lawyer could take another step forward.

“Hold your fire!” the attorney screamed, holding his hands high in the air while brandishing the blue-backed legal document like a white flag.

“I have an emergency stay of proceedings issued by the federal appellate court! The asset freeze on the primary holding accounts has been temporarily lifted on a technicality!”

Margaret’s eyes flashed with sudden, dangerous fury. She stepped past the marshals, her face inches from the terrified lawyer.

“On what technicality?” Margaret demanded, her voice cutting through the ringing silence of the lobby like a razor.

“The original seizure warrant signed by Judge Harrison contained a clerical error regarding the jurisdiction of the offshore subsidiaries in Zurich,” the lawyer panted, adjusting his crooked tie.

“Which means Julian’s corporate signing rights have been reinstated for the next forty-eight hours until the appellate panel reviews the revised indictment!”

A collective shock rippled through the federal hallway. Elena lowered her portfolio, her dark eyes narrowing as she processed the legal loophole.

“That means,” Elena said quietly, looking directly at Margaret, “Julian is legally back in control of the corporate assets right now.”

“And if he manages to execute one final electronic transfer before the forty-eight hours expire,” the man in the grey suit added grimly, “he can drain every remaining dollar to a secure, untraceable account overseas, leaving the company and the workers completely bankrupt.”

Margaret closed her eyes, a wave of profound exhaustion washing over her stern features. She had fought tooth and nail to dismantle her son’s corrupt empire, only for a bureaucratic clerical error to hand the keys right back to him on a silver platter.

“Where is he?” Margaret asked coldly.

“They’re transferring him from the holding facility to the main courthouse right now for the emergency injunction hearing,” the lawyer stammered, stepping back nervously under Margaret’s piercing glare.

“He’s already calling his offshore contacts from the transport van.”

Elena stepped forward, her expression hardening into absolute resolve. She placed her leather portfolio down on the security desk, unzipped it, and pulled out a stack of documents she had printed before arriving.

“He can’t transfer anything without the primary cryptographic shareholder signature,” Elena said, her voice steady and commanding.

“And according to the corporate bylaws filed with the state board, as the newly verified primary heir holding fifty-one percent of the trust voting rights, my signature supersedes Julian’s emergency injunction.”

Margaret turned to look at Elena, a slow, grim smile finally breaking through the older woman’s hardened expression.

“You caught on fast, child,” Margaret murmured, a hint of fierce pride touching her tone for the very first time.

“Too fast for comfort,” Elena replied, handing the documents to Margaret’s legal adviser.
