Chapter 3: Dawn at Veritas Holdings

The morning sun broke over the Manhattan skyline, piercing through the smog and casting a brilliant, golden hue across the glass monolith that housed Veritas Holdings. Inside the towering skyscraper, the atmosphere was brisk and professional. Employees in tailored suits moved purposefully across the polished marble lobby, their heels clicking in a synchronized rhythm. Elena Vance walked through the revolving doors at precisely eight o'clock, completely transformed. Gone was the tearful, rain-soaked woman of the previous night; in her place stood the executive vice president and primary controlling shareholder of the entire conglomerate.
She wore a crisp, charcoal-gray pantsuit that commanded immediate respect, her dark hair pulled back into a flawless, sharp chignon. Every movement was deliberate and measured. As she stepped into her private elevator, security guards nodded deferentially, unaware of the domestic storm that had raged less than twelve hours prior.
Up on the forty-fifth floor, Elena’s executive assistant, Marcus, was already waiting at her desk with a stack of physical folders and an open tablet. Marcus was a sharp, fiercely loyal young man who had managed Elena’s private schedule for five years. He took one look at her composed expression and immediately knew that the preliminary phase of their long-planned contingency strategy was officially underway.
"Good morning, Ms. Vance," Marcus said, standing up straight as she approached her corner office. "The legal team from Harrison & Croft has been assembled in the primary boardroom. They brought the original deeds, the corporate restructuring logs, and the asset freeze authorizations you requested last night."
"Thank you, Marcus," Elena replied, her voice smooth and devoid of emotion. "Have they reviewed the acquisition timeline for Vance Tech?"
"Extensively," Marcus confirmed, falling into step beside her as she walked toward the glass-walled boardroom. "They confirmed that every single patent, research facility, and operational lease currently utilized by Julian Vance is legally tied to Veritas Holdings through a silent primary holding agreement signed prior to your marriage. He literally operates on leased intellectual property and collateralized debt backed entirely by your personal credit profile."

Elena paused with her hand on the boardroom door handle. A cold, satisfaction bloomed in her chest. Julian had spent months plotting her financial exile, believing he was pulling the strings behind the scenes, utterly blind to the fact that he was dancing inside a cage she had constructed for him on day one.
"Let’s begin," Elena said, pushing the door open to reveal four senior corporate attorneys sitting around a massive mahogany table. They all rose in unison as she entered the room, their expressions solemn and focused. Today was the day Julian Vance would discover the true cost of locking his wife out in the rain.
