Chapter 1: The Shattered Glass

The air in the atrium of Vanguard Global Enterprises tasted of pulverized silica and expensive espresso. Julian Vance stood over the shattered perimeter wall, his bespoke dark blue suit jacket straining slightly across his broad shoulders as he maintained his aggressive, arrogant posture. His short brown hair was slicked back, untouched by the chaos he had just unleashed. At his feet, Helen Vance—sixty years old, wearing her practical brown jacket over a green shirt—sat among the scattered confidential papers on the cold marble floor.

Julian’s chest heaved with controlled fury, his sharp facial features twisted into a sneer. ""Get out, beggar!"" he had roared just moments before, his violent shove sending his own flesh and blood crashing through the reinforced security glass.

Helen did not flinch. She did not cry. Her breathing remained steady, a stark contrast to her son’s volatile outburst. Looking up from the debris, her calm, determined eyes locked onto his. ""You should have verified my name,"" she said, her voice carrying a quiet weight that cut through the humming silence of the stunned corporate lobby.

Julian scoffed, adjusting his silk tie with a sharp jerk. His mocking laugh echoed off the towering concrete pillars. ""Who could you possibly call?"" he sneered, genuinely believing his fortune and corporate title shielded him from any earthly consequence.

Helen slowly reached into the pocket of her brown jacket and pulled out a sleek black smartphone. Her expression was grave, carved from decades of silent endurance. Around them, terrified junior executives and assistants ducked behind reception desks. Among them, Sarah, a young female colleague in a tailored gray skirt suit, stared at the scene in absolute shock, her hands pressed tightly over her mouth.

Helen raised the device to her ear. She did not look at Julian. Her gaze remained fixed on the terrified horizon of her son’s corporate empire. ""He put his hands on your mother,"" she spoke firmly into the microphone.

Before the echo of her voice could fade, the heavy fire doors at the far end of the marble lobby blew inward with a deafening crash. A massive police tactical officer, clad in reinforced black gear and bearing a heavy-caliber shield, burst through the frame with his weapon drawn.

Julian spun around, his mocking smirk evaporating instantly. His eyes widened with pure panic and disbelief as the red laser sight painted the chest of his expensive suit. ""Who are you? Who are you?"" he stammered, the absolute ruler of Vanguard Global suddenly reduced to a trembling child.

Helen remained seated on the marble floor amidst the shattered glass. She lowered her phone slowly, watching the empire her son built begin to crumble.
