Chapter 10

The emergency board session lasted three unbroken hours in the tenth-floor executive boardroom, overlooking the misty skyline of the waking city. Maya stood at the head of the long mahogany table, her fingers resting lightly on the polished wood. Projected onto the massive smart-screen behind her was a live organizational chart of the Grand Azure’s administrative staff, with dozens of names highlighted in pulsing red—every single manager, accountant, and security consultant who had actively participated in or covered up Eleanor Sterling’s embezzlement schemes.

“As of seven-thirty this morning, all operational credentials for the highlighted individuals have been revoked,” Maya stated, her voice cutting cleanly through the quiet murmur of the boardroom. “David has secured the main server room, and federal investigators have been given mirror access to our financial databases. By noon, the local precincts will execute warrants for the remaining co-conspirators still inside the building.”

Arthur Vance leaned back in his leather chair, tapping a pen against his notepad. “And what about daily operations, Maya? The morning rush is beginning. Guests will expect seamless service, luxury hospitality, and uninterrupted attention. If staff members see mass arrests and federal agents in the lobby, the PR fallout could destroy our booking rates for the entire fiscal quarter.”

“We don’t hide it, Arthur,” Maya replied without hesitation. “We face it head-on. Transparency is the only currency that matters right now. We inform our guests that the Grand Azure is undergoing a comprehensive administrative restructuring to restore its founding standards of integrity. We comp breakfast for every checked-in guest, and we personally address any concerns at the front desk.”

One of the younger male directors frowned, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “That’s a radical approach. Are you certain the staff can handle the transition without leadership supervision in key departments?”

“They won’t be unsupervised,” Maya said, her tone softening just a fraction, though her eyes remained steely. “My father trained a generation of hospitality professionals who were demoted, silenced, or pushed out when Eleanor took over. I spent the last three weeks quietly locating them, verifying their credentials, and preparing them to step back into their rightful roles. The department heads taking over at nine o'clock this morning are veterans of this hotel who actually care about its legacy.”

As if on cue, a soft chime sounded from the boardroom door. David slipped quietly into the room, holding a secure tablet. He walked straight up to Maya and handed it to her without a word.

Maya glanced at the screen, a faint, resolute smile touching her lips. “The first wave of replacements has arrived at the loading dock. Let’s go down to the lobby and welcome them home.”

The board members stood up in unison. The hesitation that had marked their entrance earlier that morning had completely evaporated, replaced by a renewed sense of purpose under the command of the true heir.
