Claire did not stay in the opulent Lake Shore penthouse. She sold the property and bought a sunlit, two-story craftsman house in a quiet neighborhood near the lake, surrounded by maple trees and a wide green yard. The grand crystal chandeliers and suffocating ballrooms were replaced by the warm yellow glow of a small kitchen lamp, where homework papers and colored pencils covered the sturdy oak table.
