Chapter 13: The Corporate Collapse

The glass-and-steel monolith of Vance Global Enterprises towered over the financial district, its sleek lobby usually humming with anxious investors, wealthy executives, and obsequious assistants. Today, however, the atmosphere was shattered by the sudden, synchronized entry of federal marshals in tactical gear. The heavy glass revolving doors pushed inward with startling force, scattering the reception staff as federal agents fanned out across the grand lobby, locking down all exits and disabling the elevator override systems.

Clara walked calmly through the lobby behind Special Prosecutor Davis and Julian Astor, her head held high, the sparkling ruby necklace catching the bright morning light reflecting off the chrome pillars. She wore her white ruffled dress like a banner of victory.

On the forty-second floor, inside the sprawling executive boardroom, Viktor Vance stood at the head of a massive glass table, lecturing a room full of nervous regional investors. He wore his maroon suit jacket over a vibrant floral print shirt, his thick gold chain resting heavily against his chest as he gestured aggressively with a heavy gold-ringed hand.

“I assure you, gentlemen, the temporary liquidity dip is entirely manageable,” Viktor was saying, his voice booming with forced confidence. “Vance Global remains the undisputed titan of this—”

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a deafening crash.

Viktor stopped mid-sentence, his face twisting into an expression of furious rage as he turned toward the intruders. “What the hell is the meaning of this? Security! Throw these—”

“Security stood down, Mr. Vance,” Special Prosecutor Davis interrupted smoothly, stepping into the boardroom with his federal badge held high. Behind him, two armed marshals flanked the doorway.

Viktor’s dark eyes widened slightly in genuine shock as he recognized the federal insignia, but he quickly recovered, smoothing his slicked-back hair with an arrogant sneer. “You’re making a monumental mistake, Prosecutor. Do you know who I am? I own half the municipal bonds in this zip code.”

“You own nothing, Mr. Vance,” a quiet, steady voice rang out from behind the marshals.

Clara stepped forward into the boardroom, walking past the armed agents until she stood directly opposite Viktor across the massive glass table. The room went dead silent. The regional investors shrank back in their leather chairs, gasping as they recognized the heiress Viktor had publicly claimed ownership of just the night before.

Viktor stared at her, his jaw dropping in absolute disbelief. “You... how did you—”

“You forgot to lock your safe, Viktor,” Clara said, her voice remarkably calm, cutting through the heavy tension of the room like a razor. She reached into her handbag and pulled out a single copy of the forged hospital document, slamming it down onto the glass table right in front of him. “And the federal prosecutor found your forgery quite fascinating.”
