Chapter 12: The Net Closes

The federal courthouse conference room was silent save for the hum of the secure printer churning out pages of emergency warrants and asset-freeze orders. Special Prosecutor Davis stood near the long mahogany table, tapping a pen against the polished wood as he reviewed the final operational plan with a team of federal marshals. Julian stood beside Clara, his hand resting supportively on the back of her chair. Clara felt a strange mixture of calm and nervous anticipation. The end of the nightmare was finally within reach, but she knew Viktor Vance would not go down without a brutal, violent fight.
“Our intelligence confirms that Vance is currently hosting an emergency investment luncheon at his downtown corporate headquarters,” Prosecutor Davis announced, looking directly at Clara and Julian. “He believes he has absolute immunity. We are deploying three tactical units to surround the building, freeze all corporate accounts simultaneously, and execute the arrest warrant before he realizes his safe has been compromised.”
“Will his security detail put up armed resistance?” Julian asked, his brow furrowing with concern.
“Vance relies on intimidation, not firepower,” Davis replied steadily. “Once the federal badge is shown and his accounts are frozen in real-time, his corporate empire will dissolve faster than a house of cards. His lawyers won’t even answer his calls once they see the bank freezes.”
Clara stood up from the chair, smoothing down the front of her white ruffled dress. The ruby necklace and earrings pulsed softly under the fluorescent lights of the federal office—the very same jewels Viktor had claimed as his property just twenty-four hours earlier.
“I want to be there,” Clara said, her voice quiet but unyielding.
Davis looked at her in surprise, shaking his head. “Miss Vance, that’s highly irregular. It’s a federal operation. It could be dangerous.”
“Viktor stole my family’s name, my home, and my dignity in front of the entire elite society of this city,” Clara replied, her dark eyes flashing with a fierce, unbreakable resolve. “I want to be there when he realizes that his half-million-dollar investment just bought him a prison cell.”

Julian looked at her, a proud, admiring smile touching the corners of his mouth. He turned to the prosecutor. “Let her come, Davis. She’s earned every right to witness the fall.”
Prosecutor Davis hesitated for a moment before finally nodding slowly. “Alright. But you stay behind the federal marshals at all times.”
