Chapter 11: The Federal Office

The federal courthouse loomed like a fortress of gray stone against the afternoon sky, its massive pillars symbolizing a justice system that Viktor Vance had spent years manipulating from the shadows. Inside, the quiet hum of legal bureaucracy was punctuated by the steady click of Clara’s heels as she walked beside Julian Astor down the polished marble corridor of the second floor. She had traded her ruined high heels for a simple pair of flats borrowed from Julian’s administrative assistant, but her sparkling white ruffled dress remained, a striking symbol of the elite world she was about to tear down.
Julian pushed open the heavy frosted-glass door labeled Office of the Special Federal Prosecutor, leading Clara inside before the startled receptionist could intervene. A tall, gray-haired man in a crisp charcoal suit looked up from a desk cluttered with case files, his sharp eyes narrowing behind wire-rimmed glasses.
“Mr. Astor,” the prosecutor said, standing up and extending a hand. “This is an unexpected visit. And who—”
“This is Clara Vance, Special Prosecutor Davis,” Julian interrupted, stepping aside to reveal Clara standing tall and resolute beside him. She reached into her handbag and pulled out the heavy leather folder, placing it squarely in the center of the prosecutor’s desk.
Davis frowned, looking from Julian to Clara, then down at the leather folder bearing the Vance family crest. “What is this?”
“That is the definitive proof of systemic financial fraud, forgery, and industrial racketeering committed by Viktor Vance over the past five years,” Julian stated firmly, his voice echoing in the quiet office. “Included inside are original promissory notes, forged medical signatures used to illegally seize family estates, and bank routing slips proving systematic money laundering through shell corporations.”
Davis stared at the folder for a long moment before slowly reaching out and opening the cover. As he began flipping through the documents, his professional detachment vanished, replaced by a look of grim astonishment. He pulled out a magnifying loupe from his desk drawer, carefully examining the forged hospital signature page where Viktor had copied Clara’s late father’s handwriting.
“These signatures are exceptionally convincing,” Davis murmured, looking up at Clara with intense scrutiny. “To the untrained eye, they would pass probate easily. But under forensic analysis... the ink density and stroke pressure are entirely fabricated.”

“Viktor Vance forced my father to sign blank financial papers while he was heavily medicated in the hospital,” Clara spoke up, her voice steady, clear, and laced with absolute conviction. “When my father passed away, Viktor used those documents to steal our estate, our assets, and our legal standing.”
Davis closed the folder slowly, a decisive look settling over his face. He pressed the intercom button on his desk. “Get the duty judge on the secure line. I need an emergency arrest warrant issued immediately for Viktor Vance on federal charges of fraud and racketeering.”
