Chapter 1: The Impossible Dawn

The sun pierced through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the gallery, illuminating dust motes dancing in the silence. Nobody moved. The sound of high heels gently clicking against polished concrete was usually mundane, but for Evelyn Vance, it was the sound of a resurrected life. Five years in an electric wheelchair following a catastrophic hit-and-run had ended her career as a prodigy sculptor and sealed her in a fortress of cynicism. Yet here she stood, tall and trembling, her emerald dress cascading around legs that doctors had declared permanently paralyzed.
Before her stood the boy. He couldn't have been older than eight, wrapped in an oversized denim jacket worn thin at the elbows. His hands, still warm with the fading remnants of a soft golden aura, hung loosely at his sides.
Marcus, her head of security, slowly lowered his firearm, his knuckles white. The trained combat veteran looked terrified not of a threat, but of the impossible. Behind them, fifty elite art patrons stood frozen mid-gasp.
"Who are you?" Evelyn whispered, her voice cracking as a single tear cut through her immaculate makeup.
The boy didn't answer right away. He simply looked into her eyes with a solemn, ancient calm that felt jarring in such a small frame.
"You make beautiful things," the child said softly. "It wasn't fair that you couldn't stand to see them."

Before Evelyn could take another step, the boy turned toward the exit. The gallery doors opened to the crisp morning air, and by the time Marcus sprinted outside to follow him, the city street had already swallowed the boy whole.
