Chapter 6: The Law Arrives

Marcus’s armored SUV smashed through the ornamental iron gates, followed closely by the County Sheriff's patrol units. Sirens wailed, bouncing violently against the stone facades of the estate.
"Drop your weapons! Hands where we can see them!" Chief Alvarez’s voice boomed through a megaphone as armed deputies poured out of their vehicles, forming a perimeter around Vivian’s contractors.
The armed guard slowly raised his hands, dropping his sidearm into the gravel. Vivian stood frozen, the umbrella tilting sideways as the rain ruined her pristine hair and drenched her velvet dress.
"Officer, this is a private family dispute," Vivian attempted, her voice shrill and unsteady. "He is medically unfit—he's having a psychotic break!"
Luca walked forward, handing a sealed water-resistant pouch directly to Chief Alvarez. "Inside you'll find the toxicological panel from my blood drawn this morning, the sedative bottles hidden in the third-floor linen closet, and complete records of illicit wire transfers dating back fourteen months."
Chief Alvarez nodded gravely, looking at Vivian. "Vivian Vance, you are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, conspiracy to commit murder, and endangerment of a minor."
As the handcuffs clicked around Vivian's wrists, she looked at Luca with venomous eyes. "You think this makes you a hero, Luca? You're broken. You'll always be broken."
May you like
"I was broken," Luca said quietly. "Until I learned what I was living for."
