Chapter 5: Confrontation in the Rain

Luca emerged into the grand courtyard through the side terrace. Cold rain immediately soaked his linen shirt, plastering dark hair across his forehead. In the center of the driveway, the headlights of the two black sedans suddenly flared to life, cutting through the downpour.

Vivian stood under a large black umbrella held by a burly man in an overcoat.

"Hand over the flash drive, Luca," Vivian shouted over the sound of thunder. "You walk out of this house with a generous trust fund, and you take the girl to Europe. Nobody needs to know the truth about the foundation."

"The foundation belonged to the children’s hospital, Vivian," Luca replied, stepping into the glaring beams of light. "You stole from terminal patients to buy offshore holdings."

"I built this empire while you mourned your dead wife!" she screamed, her polished facade finally cracking into jagged desperation. "You think the world cares about your morality? Out here, power is taken, not inherited!"
