Chapter 12: A Father's Stand**

""She's your granddaughter, Eleanor!"" David shouted over the deafening blare of the house alarm. He didn't look at the barrel of the gun; his eyes were locked on Emma, whose breathing was shallow and erratic. ""She carries your daughter’s blood! How can you look at her face and do this?!""
""She is a liability,"" Eleanor hissed, her finger tightening slightly on the trigger. ""Sarah was weak. She defied me, married a common laborer, and tried to cut me out of my husband’s legacy. Arthur built that fortune for *me*, not for foolish girls who throw it away on suburban domesticity.""
""You killed Sarah,"" David said, taking a deliberate half-step forward. ""You slowly murdered your own child for bank accounts.""
""Sarah was ungrateful!"" Eleanor screamed, her composed facade finally shattering into raw, unhinged fury. ""I gave her everything! I shaped her life! And when she threatened to audit Arthur’s estate, she left me no choice! Just like you leave me no choice!""
*Beep.*
From David's jacket pocket, a bright red LED light blinked.
He reached down slowly and pulled out his phone. The screen was active, transmitting a live, high-definition broadcast directly to the local precinct, the sheriff’s cruiser dispatch, and Dr. Marcus Reed.
""Thank you, Eleanor,"" David said softly. ""The entire department just heard every word.""

Eleanor’s eyes dilated with sheer panic. In that split second of hesitation, David lunged.
