The swimming pool, once reflecting the golden lights of extravagant charity galas, gathered rainwater and fallen autumn leaves, undisturbed by the wealthy elite who had once traded secrets upon its marble patio.
Miles away, in the bright, bustling community rooms of the Horizon Child Advocacy Network, another kind of gathering was taking place. Laughter echoed off the cream-colored walls as children ran across the clean linoleum floors, playing games, drawing pictures, and sharing snacks at low wooden tables. There were no imported caviar dishes or wasteful banquets here—only simple, wholesome food served with genuine care.
