Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass of Betrayal

The evening air in the high-end seaside apartment smelled of expensive white wine, melting butter, and boiled lobster, a scent that usually signaled corporate triumph or family celebration. Tonight, however, the dining room felt like a pressure cooker on the verge of exploding. Clara stood at the head of the lavishly decorated table, her posture rigid inside a pristine beige suit that felt more like armor than evening wear. In her left arm, she held her sleepy two-year-old toddler, Leo, whose little fingers clutched nervously at the lapel of her jacket. Before them lay a spread of exorbitant seafood, untouched and cooling rapidly under the harsh chandelier light. Clara’s chest heaved with suppressed rage as she slammed an empty crystal wine glass down onto the mahogany surface, the fragile stem snapping instantly and sending jagged shards scattering across the white tablecloth among the pristine silver cutlery.
“Why was she outthere?” Clara demanded, her voice cutting through the silent room like a razor blade, trembling with a mixture of exhaustion and profound betrayal.
At the other end of the table, Helena, the older woman with long silver hair falling past her shoulders, didn't even flinch at the shattering glass. She took a slow, deliberate sip from her own glass, her expression remarkably calm, almost chillingly detached, with the ghost of a cold smile playing at the corners of her lips.
Helena replied softly, her tone dripping with condescension:
“A little discomfort will teach the girl some discipline.”
Seated halfway between them, Julian, a young man dressed in a crisp blue button-down shirt, shrunk back into his chair as if trying to make himself invisible. He raised both hands, gesturing defensively to neutralize the escalating hostility that threatened to tear their fragile family facade apart.
Julian muttered nervously, casting anxious glances toward the floor:
“Don't make a scene.”
Clara clutched the crying toddler tighter to her chest, her eyes burning with unshed tears as she looked fiercely straight into the camera lens, capturing the raw agony of a mother pushed past her absolute breaking point. The emotional tension in the room thickened to a suffocating degree as Clara turned her burning gaze back toward Julian, locking eyes with the man she had trusted implicitly for five long years.
Clara whispered with a quiet, terrifying intensity:
“From tomorrow on, pray for yourself.”

Without another word, Clara turned on her heel, her heavy luggage waiting by the private elevator. As the doors slid shut behind her, Julian stared at the shattered glass on the table, realizing too late that his hidden bank accounts had just been accessed.
