Chapter 6: The Unseen Enemy

By midnight, Julian and Finch were inside a secure, hidden laboratory on the outskirts of the city, owned by Marcus's family. Finch administered an antidote designed to flush the remaining neuro-inhibitors from Julian’s system.

As the liquid entered his bloodstream, a intense burning sensation swept down Julian’s spine. For the first time in thirty-six months, he felt a sharp, prickling sensation in his toes.

"It will take hours for full motor control to return," Finch warned, monitoring the vitals on a screen. "Your muscles have atrophied, even with the physical therapy."

"I don't need to run a marathon tomorrow," Julian said through gritted teeth as he forced his toes to curl. "I just need to stand."

Meanwhile, Marcus brought news from the Vance mansion. Arthur had noticed Julian's sudden departure and was panicking. Security around the estate had been doubled, and Arthur had called an emergency board meeting for the following morning to finalize the full transfer of all Vance Maritime assets to an offshore shell corporation owned by the Apex Syndicate.

"Arthur is moving fast," Marcus said. "He knows something is wrong."

"Let him think he's won," Julian said, clutching the handrails of a physical therapy bar and forcing his knees to straighten. Pain shot through his limbs, but he refused to fall. "Tomorrow, we attend the board meeting."
