Chapter 3: The Unspoken Truth

Julian wheeled himself into Finch’s study. The room was clutter-free, save for open drawers near the desk, indicating someone had been packing in a rush. On the main monitor, a file transfer was in progress, uploading encrypted medical logs to an offshore server.
Julian plugged the silver cylinder into the workstation's interface slot. The screen flickered, bypassing the encryption protocol. A detailed medical profile appeared.
It was Julian’s file—but with a horrifying twist.
The records showed that Julian’s spinal cord had never been severed. Instead, he had been receiving monthly injections of a synthetic neuro-inhibitor, disguised as routine physical therapy vitamins administered by Finch. The drug temporarily blocked nerve signals to his legs, mimicking permanent paralysis.
Julian’s chest tightened as he stared at the screen. "Why?" he whispered aloud.
A footstep sounded behind him. Julian turned his chair to see Dr. Finch standing in the doorway, holding a leather travel bag. Finch didn't look angry; his face was pale, worn down by an immense weight of guilt.
"You weren't supposed to find that, Julian," Finch said softly, his voice trembling.

Finch looked away, tears welling in his eyes. "It wasn't for money, Julian. They held my daughter's life in their hands."
