Chapter 5 - The Blue Gown's Intervention

Before Chloe could formulate a response to Julian Thorne’s predatory ultimatum, a low, rumbling hum echoed down Maple Street. All heads turned toward the corner as a vintage Rolls-Royce Phantom, painted in a deep, midnight blue, glided silently toward the building. The vehicle stopped directly behind the matte-black Mercedes, effectively blocking the corporate lawyer's escape route.
Julian’s professional facade cracked for a microsecond. His eyes darted to the distinctive royal crest embossed on the Rolls-Royce's side door.
The rear passenger door swung open, and a uniformed chauffeur stepped out, quickly unrolling a portable carbon-fiber ramp from the running board. Moments later, Eleanor—still wearing her elegant dark blue gown, though now draped in a cashmere shawl—wheeled herself out of the vehicle. Her silver hair was neatly pinned, and her expression was one of unyielding authority.
Julian straightened his suit jacket, forcing a stiff, deferential smile as he recognized the newcomer. "Ah, Madam Eleanor. I wasn't aware Vance Holdings had dispatched liaison counsel for this acquisition."
Eleanor didn't even look at the lawyer. Her sharp, intelligent eyes fixed entirely on Chloe, who stood frozen on the concrete steps.
"Julian," Eleanor said, her voice cutting through the crisp autumn air like a scythe. "Tell Arthur that his corporate tantrums are becoming predictable. You cannot bulldoze a building that you do not legally own."
Julian’s smile vanished completely. "With all due respect, Madam, the board of directors approved the master deed acquisition yesterday morning under emergency provisions—"
"The board of directors answers to the primary majority shareholder," Eleanor interrupted smoothly, lifting a crisp document from her lap and holding it up for the lawyer to see. "And as the sole surviving founder of Vance Enterprises, I revoked Arthur’s proxy powers at 8:00 AM this morning. This building, along with twelve others on this block, was transferred into a private irrevocable trust bearing Chloe’s exact name yesterday afternoon."
Chloe gasped, taking an involuntary step backward. She grabbed the metal handrail for support. "Me? You transferred this property to me?"
"You stood up when everyone else sat down, child," Eleanor said softly, turning her wheelchair slightly to face the stunned lawyer. "And in this family, loyalty and courage are rewarded, while greed and tyranny are systematically dismantled."
Julian’s face turned the color of ash. He fumbled with his leather briefcase, nearly dropping his phone as he frantically dialed Arthur Vance’s private number. "Madam Eleanor, you are exceeding your corporate authority. The courts will—"
"The courts will find that Arthur has been embezzling from the foundation pension fund for the last six years," Eleanor cut him off, her tone dropping to an icy whisper that made Julian flinch. "Tell him I am waiting for him in the executive boardroom at noon. And take your matte-black trash heap off this property before I have it towed to the city dump."
Julian swallowed hard, realizing the catastrophic shift in power. Without another word, he scrambled back into his Mercedes, slamming the door shut as the car reversed aggressively down the street, tires screeching against the asphalt.
Mrs. Gable opened the apartment door wider, tears streaming down her wrinkled cheeks as she stared at Eleanor in disbelief.

Eleanor reached out, her aged hand gesturing for Chloe to come closer. "Come here, my dear," Eleanor said gently. "We have a great deal of paperwork to sign, and Arthur is about to have a very unpleasant morning."
