Chapter 11 - The Counter-Strike

Arthur Pendelton didn’t flinch, though a muscle twitched violently along his jawline. He slowly interlaced his fingers again, letting out a long, measured sigh that carried the weight of decades of corporate corruption.
"You think a technicality on a pre-nup is going to save you, Clara?" Arthur asked, his voice dropping to a low, menacing purr. "Do you really think we spent twenty years building this empire just to hand it over to a grieving bride with a grudge?"
Charles Vance shifted uncomfortably in his seat, glancing nervously between Arthur and the flash drive sitting on the mahogany table. "Arthur, maybe we should reconsider—"
"Shut up, Charles," Arthur snapped, his eyes never leaving Clara's face. He pressed a small intercom button on the armrest of his chair. "Security, please escort Mrs. Sterling out of the building. And confiscate that briefcase."
The heavy boardroom doors clicked open behind Clara, and two burly men in black security uniforms stepped into the room, their expressions blank and obedient. They advanced toward her table with heavy, synchronized strides.
Clara didn't stand up. She didn't even blink. She simply tapped the surface of the table with her fingernail. "Before your goons touch me, Arthur, you might want to check your phone."
Arthur’s brow furrowed in irritation. "I have no time for your games, Clara—"
"Check your phone," Clara repeated, her voice cutting through the room like a razor blade.
At that exact moment, the private cell phones belonging to all four men sitting around the mahogany table buzzed simultaneously with a chorus of high-pitched notification tones. Arthur hesitated, his hand sliding slowly toward his coat pocket. He pulled out his smartphone, unlocked the screen, and stared down at the display.
The color instantly drained from his face, leaving him looking like a corpse under the harsh fluorescent lights.
"What... what is this?" Arthur whispered, his hands trembling so violently he nearly dropped the device.
"That," Clara said smoothly, leaning back in her chair and crossing her legs, "is a timed-release data dump sent directly to every major financial regulator, the federal attorney general, and the international press corps. It details every offshore account, every illegal dumping site, and every single corporate bribe authorized by this board over the last fifteen years."
Charles Vance let out a choked gasp, staring at his own phone screen in absolute horror. "The SEC... they've already frozen all our personal assets."
"And by tomorrow morning," Clara continued, her voice cold and merciless, "every single one of you will be facing federal indictments for securities fraud, corporate embezzlement, and first-degree conspiracy."
Arthur slammed his fists down onto the table, standing up so fast his chair screptoed backward against the floor. His aristocratic facade was entirely shattered, revealing the desperate, cornered animal underneath. "You little bitch! You've destroyed us all!"
May you like
"No, Arthur," Clara said, standing up to meet him eye-to-eye, her posture radiating absolute power. "I’m just finishing what you started."
