Chapter 13 - The Broadcast

“The press?” Julian stared at his sister as if she had lost her mind. “The major television networks and newspapers are entirely owned by the state media syndicate! They won't run a single word against the Prime Minister!”

“Not the state networks,” Clara corrected, walking swiftly toward the old carriage house’s underground communications bunker—a relic from the Cold War era that Uncle Richard never even knew existed. “Independent pirate radio networks and encrypted global data packets. Father spent millions building this bunker as a fail-safe against government corruption.”

She unlocked the heavy vault door of the bunker, revealing a dimly lit room filled with rows of vintage vacuum-tube transmitters, satellite uplink dishes, and high-security computer terminals.

Commander Vance whistled softly as he surveyed the equipment. “This rig can bypass every state firewall and broadcast a high-definition encrypted video feed to every independent terminal across the continent simultaneously.”

“Exactly,” Clara said, sitting down at the main console and flicking the master power switch. The vintage tubes glowed with a warm, amber light as the system hummed to life. She plugged her recovered flash drive containing the digital copies of the red ledger into the terminal. “Once this feed goes live, every citizen from the slums to the high parliament will see the corruption, the weapons manifests, and the assassination orders signed by the Prime Minister himself.”

Julian walked over, placing a trembling hand on Clara’s shoulder. “And if they trace the signal before the upload finishes?”

“Then they’ll have to broadcast our execution to the entire nation,” Clara replied calmly, her fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard with blinding speed.

A progress bar appeared on the large monitor screen: Uplink in progress... 15%... 30%...

Suddenly, the bunker’s main overhead lights flickered and died, plunging the room into darkness except for the amber glow of the computer monitor. A harsh, mechanical screech echoed from the exterior security speakers.

“They’ve jammed our satellite uplink frequency!” Vance shouted, checking his tactical tablet. “The signal is frozen at 78%!”
