CHAPTER 15: The Jacket and the Sea

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a magnificent river of violet and gold across the water, the crowds gathered near the outdoor amphitheater for an open-air concert.
Julian quietly slipped away from the celebration.
He walked down to the end of the public wooden pier where the water lapped gently against the pilings. He took a deep, full breath of the clean ocean air. For the first time in over a decade, the suffocating ache in his chest—the crushing weight of grief and regret—was gone.
He had not brought Clara back. But he had built a world where her spirit could dance in the laughter of ten thousand children.
He unzipped the old gray jacket. He reached into the inner pocket and pulled out the small bronze seal. He looked at the open hand etched into its metal face.
He didn't need to lock it away in a safe anymore. The covenant was fulfilled.

Julian placed the seal back into his pocket, zipped up the worn canvas to shield himself from the rising evening breeze, and turned back toward the warm lights and music of the park.
He walked back into the crowd—not as a billionaire, not as an icon, but simply as a man among his people, finally at home.
