Chapter 9 - The Gunpoint Confrontation

The metallic click of the revolver’s hammer pulling back sounded deafeningly loud in the cramped AV control room. Arthur Vance stood blocking the only exit, his silver hair catching the faint blue glow from the master control monitors. His tailored suit was immaculate, completely devoid of the chaos that had consumed the banquet hall just hours earlier. A cold, self-satisfied smile touched the corners of his thin lips as he kept the barrel of the gun trained steadily on Margaret’s chest.

"Well, well, well," Arthur purred, his voice dripping with venomous mockery. "The ghost of Maine has finally decided to show her face. I must admit, Margaret, your stubbornness is almost admirable. Most people would have stayed drowned at the bottom of the ocean."

Margaret didn't flinch. She stepped forward slightly, placing herself between Arthur and Eleanor, her green eyes blazing with unbridled fury. "You murdered my husband, Arthur, and you thought you could steal an empire built on blood and fraud. Your reign of terror ends today."

Arthur laughed, a harsh, grating sound that lacked any warmth. "Who is going to stop you, Margaret? You're hiding in a dark control room with a disgraced nobody while my board of directors downstairs is currently voting to approve the emergency liquidation of all corporate assets. By ten o'clock this morning, every cent will be safely transferred to offshore accounts, and you two will be rotting in a federal penitentiary for industrial espionage."

Eleanor’s eyes darted frantically around the control room, searching for an alternative exit or a heavy object she could use as a weapon. The room was packed with server racks, mixing boards, and tangled cables, but nothing within arm's reach could stop a bullet. Her heart hammered against her ribs, but her mind remained sharp, calculating every possible angle.

"Julian knows the truth, doesn't he?" Eleanor challenged suddenly, her voice cutting sharply through the tension. "That's why you made him read that statement on live television. You blackmailed your own son into destroying the woman he loves, just to cover up your crimes!"

Arthur’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, his grip on the revolver tightening slightly. "Julian is a Vance. He did what was necessary to preserve the dynasty. Loyalty to the family name supersedes everything else, including foolish mortal attachments."

"He doesn't know you killed his real parents, does he?" Margaret pressed ruthlessly, taking another step forward. "He thinks his mother died in an accident because you told him a convenient lie to secure his compliance."

"Shut your mouth!" Arthur roared, his face flushing dark red as his finger twitched dangerously close to the trigger. "One more word, Margaret, and I'll put a bullet through your heart right here."

Eleanor used that momentary lapse in Arthur's concentration to lunge sideways toward the master broadcasting console. Her hand slammed down hard onto the manual override switch for the boardroom's primary projection screens, cutting off the corporate presentation slides and connecting the live audio feed from the control room directly into the massive ceiling speakers hanging over the heads of the waiting board members downstairs.

"Arthur Vance is a fraud and a murderer!" Eleanor’s voice boomed powerfully through the massive glass boardroom below, echoing off the mahogany walls and startling the dozens of executives sitting at the conference table.

Downstairs, the startled board members jumped to their feet, gasping and looking up at the empty ceiling speakers in absolute shock. Through the glass observation window, Eleanor saw Julian spin around in his executive chair, his eyes widening in pure horror as his father's crimes began broadcasting live across the entire corporate network.

Arthur cursed viciously, turning his gun away from Margaret and aiming it directly at Eleanor's chest as she stood by the console. "You stupid little bitch!" he screamed, pulling the trigger.

Before the bullet could leave the barrel, Margaret lunged forward like a striking predator, slamming her body weight directly into Arthur's arm and forcing the gun upward. The deafening crack of gunfire shattered the control room window, sending a shower of glass cascading down onto the mahogany table in the boardroom far below.
