Chapter 13: The Closing Net

By morning, the digital earthquake triggered by the encrypted transmission had begun to shake the foundations of the Ravenscroft empire. In his penthouse office overlooking the state capital, Special Prosecutor Marcus Vance didn't waste a single minute. Armed with the irrefutable financial ledgers, corporate emails, and eyewitness affidavits provided by Clara and authenticated by forensic experts, Vance secured emergency search and seizure warrants for both the Ravenscroft corporate headquarters and the main estate in coastal cliffs.

On the front page of every major state newspaper, a bold headline broke across the digital news feeds: RAVENSCROFT ENTERPRISES UNDER CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION FOR FRAUD, EXTORTION, AND CORPORATE SABOTAGE.

Inside the grand study of the Ravenscroft mansion, Julian Ravenscroft slammed his fist down onto the mahogany desk so hard the crystal decanter rattled against its silver tray. His face was flushed with a mixture of blind rage and mounting panic. Across from him, Margaret sat in her wingback chair, her hands trembling slightly against the ivory handle of her walking cane, though her eyes remained cold and sharp.

"How is this possible?" Julian snarled, his voice echoing off the high vaulted ceiling. "The digital safe was encrypted with military-grade protocols! Who could have accessed the master drive?"

Before Margaret could reply, the heavy oak doors of the study burst open without warning. Three federal marshals, flanked by state police officers in tactical gear, marched into the room. The lead officer stepped forward, holding a legal document aloft with a solemn expression.

"Julian Ravenscroft, you are under arrest for conspiracy, securities fraud, and the attempted murder of Clara Ravenscroft," the officer announced, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "Margaret Ravenscroft, you are being detained as a co-conspirator in ongoing criminal enterprises. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

Julian stared at the silver handcuffs dangling from the officer’s hand, his expression shifting from arrogant disbelief into cold, absolute shock. "This is an outrage! My lawyers will dismantle this entire farce before the sun sets!"

"Your lawyers are currently being served with subpoenas for obstruction of justice," the officer replied smoothly, stepping forward and clamping the cold steel cuffs around Julian’s wrists.

As they hauled him toward the doorway, Julian caught a glimpse of his reflection in the dark window glass—the same reflection that had looked down with such utter contempt upon a terrified pregnant woman dangling from a marble balcony just days before. The empire he had built on deceit, intimidation, and bloodshed was crumbling into dust around him, dismantled not by corporate rivals, but by the very wife he had tried to erase from existence.
