Chapter 13

Julian took the manila envelope from Marcus, feeling the tangible weight of their final victory. “Thank you, Marcus. For everything. You didn't just act as our lawyer; you helped us save our family.”

Marcus smiled, clapping Julian gently on the shoulder. “That’s what friends are for. Just make sure you two take a real vacation. Somewhere far away, where there are no cell phones, no corporate trusts, and no domineering mothers.”

After Marcus left, Julian walked back into the living room and handed the envelope to Clara. She opened it, scanning the legal language confirming that the restraining order was permanent and that the family trust had been legally dissolved and redistributed back to its rightful heirs. She closed the folder, letting out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding.

“It’s really over,” Clara whispered, looking up at Julian with shining eyes.

That evening, they celebrated quietly at home. They didn't dress up in formal gala attire or wear shimmering beige sequined dresses; they stayed in comfortable clothes, ordered their favorite takeout, and ate at the dining table without a strict schedule or an audience of critics. Lily slept soundly in her crib upstairs, wrapped in her blue onesie, safe and protected in a home filled with genuine love rather than rigid perfectionism.
