Chapter 1 - The Weight of Hardened Sins

The fluorescent lights of the mortuary lab hummed a low, sterile tune, bouncing off the pristine white tiles and the cold stainless steel of the autopsy tables. Leo sat upright on the central table, his breathing ragged and shallow. His hands were no longer his own. They were encased in thick, heavy blocks of dried white concrete, trapping his fingers in a permanent, clumsy mold. Panic clawed at his chest, hot and suffocating, but he forced his voice to remain steady, masking the terror that threatened to break him.

"You are insane, Chloe," Leo gasped, his chest heaving as he stared down at the chalky gray remnants scattered across the floor. "This isn't a prank. You’ve completely lost your mind. Why would you do this to me?"

Chloe stood just inches away, her blue t-shirt with the faded skull logo clinging slightly to her frame. Her face was flushed, a mix of adrenaline and lingering fury twisting her features into something sharp and unforgiving. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, leaning in until Leo could smell the metallic tang of the room and the faint scent of plaster dust clinging to her hair.

"You think you’re so smart, don’t you, Leo?" Chloe snapped, her voice cutting through the hum of the overhead lights like a scalpel. "Sneaking into my father’s private office after hours. Digging through files that don't belong to you. What were you looking for? A headline? A scandal to boost your pathetic little journalism career?"

"I was looking for the truth," Leo retorted, his jaw tight as he tried vainly to flex his concrete-locked fingers against the steel table. "Your father isn't just a dentist, and you know it. Those files in his safe... they aren't patient records. They're missing persons reports disguised as dental charts. People don't just vanish from this town without a trace."

Chloe’s expression didn't waver, but a subtle micro-expression of dread flickered across her eyes before she hardened her gaze once more. "My dad helps people. He fixes things. And you just crossed a line you can never walk back from."

"Fixes things?" Leo laughed bitterly, the sound harsh in the empty room. "By encasing people in plaster? By turning human beings into dental projects?"

"Shut up," Chloe hissed, stepping back as her eyes drifted downward.

There, resting on the white-tiled floor near the base of the table, lay the bloody red dental mold she had dropped in her initial shock. The crimson stain glistened under the bright lights, stark and unmistakable against the white grout.

Chloe stared at the mold, her breath catching in her throat. Her face drained of all color, the bravado evaporating instantly.

"What do you put in there?" Leo whispered, his voice dropping to a terrified hum as he followed her terrified gaze down to the bloody plaster.

Before Chloe could answer, the heavy steel door at the far end of the mortuary lab slowly began to click open.
