Chapter 3 - The Shadow-Banned Rival Down the Street

The suggestion hung heavily in the warm afternoon air, thick with the scent of freshly cut grass and impending digital ruin. Baby Timothy stared at Officer Miller in absolute disbelief, his tiny brain struggling to process the treacherous nature of the influencer underworld. A dance-off against the infamous Baby Jaxson—a toddler notorious for using jump cuts and unauthorized sugar rushes to artificially inflate his view counts.

“A dance-off?” Timothy whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and professional pride. “You know Jaxson uses digital filters to make his cheeks look chubbier and his giggles sound cuter. It’s completely against the organic content creator code of ethics!”

“Ethics don't pay the server fees, kid,” Miller said bluntly, locking his smartphone and sliding it back into his utility belt pouch with a practiced click. He straightened his posture slightly, though he remained kneeling on the sidewalk to keep eye contact. “The algorithm doesn’t care about your artisanal rattle-shaking or your organic burps. It cares about retention time and watch hours. Jaxson has both, and you have a red plastic toy car and a failing credit score.”

Timothy looked down at the toy car resting mutely on the concrete. It was a vintage model, hand-me-down from an older cousin who had long since retired from the internet to pursue a stable life in toddler preschool. It lacked Bluetooth connectivity, LED headlights, and AI-driven personality traits. It was hopelessly analog in a digital dystopia.

“My cousin told me analog joy would make a comeback,” Timothy mumbled defensively, blinking back tears that threatened to spill over his chubby cheeks.

“Your cousin’s channel got deleted in the great algorithm purge of twenty-twenty-two,” Miller reminded him without a hint of sympathy. “Nostalgia doesn't trend unless it's paired with a trendy audio track and a rapid transition. Now, are we going to march down to the cul-de-sac and face Jaxson, or do I call the digital sanitation truck right now?”

The threat of the sanitation truck—a terrifying black van equipped with heavy-duty hard drive shredders—sent a shiver straight down Timothy’s spine. He imagined his tiny face fading from every screen in America, replaced by a generic error message reading User Not Found. He couldn't let his legacy end like that. Not after all those sleepless nights crying on cue for the late-night audience.

“Fine,” Timothy muttered, crossing his tiny arms over his colorful striped onesie with a stubborn pout. “I’ll do it. But I’m doing it my way. No filters, no lip-syncing to trending audios, and absolutely no artificial peekaboo drops.”

Miller cracked a faint, approving smile beneath his facial hair. “That’s the spirit of a true underdog creator. Let’s move out. Keep your hands where the algorithm can see them.”

They started walking down the suburban sidewalk, the officer leading the way with authority while the tiny infant waddled behind him, dragging his red toy car by a frayed piece of yarn. The afternoon sun cast long, dramatic shadows across the pavement as they approached the turf of their rival.
