Chapter 3

Eleanor’s patience snapped entirely. The audacity of this disheveled woman standing in her pristine lobby, talking back after being told to leave, was completely unacceptable. Eleanor raised her chin, her reddish-brown hair shifting slightly as she prepared to summon the full force of hotel security to throw the trespasser out once and for all.
"Security," Eleanor called out, her voice sharp and authoritative.
Within seconds, two burly security guards in dark suits emerged from the corridor, flanked by a nervous hotel staff member who looked as though he wanted to disappear into the woodwork. They rushed over, positioning themselves smartly behind Eleanor like loyal foot soldiers ready to execute an order.
"Remove her from the premises immediately," Eleanor commanded, gesturing toward the elderly woman in the worn green jacket. "And make sure she doesn't come back."
The elderly woman did not flinch, nor did she step back. Instead, she reached into the pocket of her beige clothing and pulled out a sleek, heavy black card crafted from brushed titanium. She held it up between two fingers. It caught the light of the chandelier, glinting with a crest that made the lead security guard instantly halt in his tracks. The guard’s eyes widened in sudden, absolute terror as he recognized the emblem. It was the master executive key—not just for any guest room, but for the entire corporate board of the international hotel chain.
Eleanor missed the guard's reaction entirely, blinded by her own arrogance and anger. "Well? What are you waiting for?" Eleanor demanded, looking between the frozen guards and the calm elderly woman. "Did you not hear me? Escort her out!"
"Manager Vance," the lead guard whispered, his voice trembling as he stepped back, physically distancing himself from Eleanor.
Eleanor frowned, turning back to face her subordinate. "What did you just call me?"
"We cannot touch her," the guard stammered, pointing a shaking hand at the elderly woman.
The elderly woman lowered the titanium card back into her pocket. She looked at Eleanor with eyes that had seen empires rise and fall, holding a profound, chilling stillness.
"You are very quick to judge who belongs here, Eleanor," the elderly woman said, her voice smooth and devoid of anger, which made it infinitely more terrifying. "And remarkably eager to punish those who show basic human kindness."

Eleanor felt a sudden chill run down her spine, though she refused to let her exterior crack. "Who do you think you are?" Eleanor challenged, her voice rising an octave. "You think you can flash some prop card and intimidate me? I run this hotel!"
"Not anymore," the elderly woman replied softly. She turned on her heel, her worn boots clicking softly against the marble floor as she walked toward the private executive elevator, leaving Eleanor standing alone in the center of the lobby with her security team staring at the floor in dread.
