Chapter 5: The Prosecutor Arrives

Arthur Sterling stepped across the threshold of the foyer, his eyes scanning the chaotic scene with the sharp precision of a veteran prosecutor. His gaze lingered for a split second on the blood trickling down Elena’s temple before snapping directly to Julian, who stood rigidly near the foot of the grand staircase. Arthur’s jaw tightened visibly, but he maintained absolute professional control over his emotions. He handed his briefcase to an agent behind him and walked straight toward Julian, stopping just inches away from the younger man.
"Julian Vance, you are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, and domestic assault," Arthur stated, his voice ringing with cold, authoritative finality. Two federal agents immediately moved past Arthur, their movements practiced and swift. Cold steel handcuffs clicked securely around Julian’s wrists behind his back. Julian did not resist, though his dark eyes burned with intense, impotent hatred as he glared at his father-in-law. "You have no idea what you've unleashed, Arthur. This goes far deeper than just my company," Julian spat bitterly as he was guided toward the exit.
Arthur did not dignify the threat with a response. Instead, he turned his full attention back to his daughter. He gently cupped Elena’s uninjured cheek with a warm, weathered hand, his eyes shining with unshed tears of relief. "Are you alright, sweetheart? Let me look at that cut," Arthur murmured, his authoritative demeanor melting instantly into paternal concern. Elena nodded slowly, letting out a long, shaky breath that felt like shedding a heavy winter coat she had worn for years. "I'm okay, Dad. It hurts, but the worst part is finally over."

Eleanor watched the exchange from a short distance away, standing quietly beside a marble pillar in her intricate lace-patterned evening dress. She looked profoundly old, her silver-blonde updo slightly askew. "Arthur," Eleanor said softly, stepping forward into the light. The prosecutor turned his gaze toward the matriarch, his expression remaining cautious and guarded. "I will not ask for leniency, Arthur," Eleanor continued, her voice steady despite her frailty. "I have the duplicate ledgers for the Swiss accounts in my private safe upstairs. I will hand them over voluntarily. Whatever comes next, we deserve it."
Arthur nodded once, acknowledging her cooperation without offering any false promises. "Thank you, Eleanor. Your testimony and those documents will ensure this is resolved properly," he replied professionally. Two local paramedics carrying medical bags stepped cautiously through the open front doors, guided by a federal agent. They made a bee-line for Elena, immediately taking over her care and ushering her toward the foyer seating area to clean and bandage the jagged laceration on her forehead.
