Chapter 14

Back at the estate, spring had fully arrived, painting the sprawling lawns in vibrant shades of green and bursting the flowerbeds along the driveway into cascades of color. The renovation of the grand foyer was entirely complete, and the house felt lighter, more breathable, as if the very bricks had exhaled a century of accumulated tension.
Nora stood on the back terrace, watching the morning mist rise off the manicured gardens while holding a cup of freshly brewed herbal tea. The faint scar on her shoulder was now just a thin, silver line, and the memories of the dark days following the fall had settled into the background of her mind—not as an open wound, but as a testament to resilience and survival.
Footsteps echoed softly on the stone paving behind her, and an instant later, Graham’s arms wrapped gently around her waist, his lips pressing a soft kiss to the side of her neck. He pulled her back against his chest, careful and protective, a daily reminder of the unwavering support that had carried them through the fire.
“You’re up early,” Graham murmured, resting his chin on her shoulder as they looked out over the gardens together.
“Couldn't sleep,” Nora replied, leaning back into his embrace. “Thinking about how much everything has changed.”
“Good changes?” Graham asked, his voice soft.
“The best kind,” Nora said, turning slightly in his arms to look up at him. “We survived the worst of it, Graham. And we didn't just survive—we built something real in its place.”
Graham smiled, his dark eyes reflecting the morning sunlight. He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of her dark wavy hair behind her ear. “My mother’s entire philosophy was built on the idea that love is a weakness, that control is the only way to survive in a harsh world. She spent her whole life building walls to keep out threats that she ended up creating herself.”
“And we built bridges instead,” Nora added, placing her hand over his heart.
“And we built bridges,” Graham echoed, his expression serious and filled with profound affection.

The journey had not been easy. Rebuilding a life from the ashes of betrayal required courage, honesty, and a willingness to confront the darkest parts of human nature without flinching. But standing together on the terrace of their home, surrounded by sunlight and open space, they knew the hard part was behind them. They had reclaimed their lives, their marriage, and their future from the shadow of the past.
As the sun cleared the horizon, bathing the entire estate in a warm, golden glow, Nora took a deep breath of the clean spring air. The past was gone, the staircase was transparent, and the road ahead was entirely theirs to walk.
