Chapter 10: The Turning Point

"Enough," Grace said, cutting through the venomous exchange between Eleanor and Mark with a tone that commanded instant obedience. She stepped fully into the center of the room, her dark eyes locking onto Eleanor’s trembling gaze. "The police are already in possession of the cloud-synced backups, Eleanor. Coming here tonight was just to secure the physical originals so your legal team couldn't claim digital tampering in court."

Eleanor’s knees seemed to weaken slightly, and she sank slowly into the high-backed leather desk chair, all the formidable armor of her beige blazer suddenly looking entirely inadequate against the reality closing in around her. The illusion of invulnerability had evaporated, leaving behind a desperate, cornered woman facing the inevitable consequences of her ambition.

Mark stood frozen by the terrace doors, his chest heaving as he stared at the floor. The fight had completely drained out of him, replaced by the crushing weight of realization. He had traded his career, his ethics, and his future for a promise of wealth that had now dissolved into a prison sentence.

Thomas lowered the fireplace poker a fraction, though he kept his stance solid. He looked down at the disgraced executives with a profound sense of closure. "Mr. Vance always said the truth has a way of rising to the top, no matter how heavy the stones you pile on top of it."

Grace turned toward the doorway, motioning for Thomas to follow her back out into the grand hallway. She paused at the threshold, glancing back one last time at the room where her father had spent his final, lonely days. The broken picture frame still lay near the staircase, but as she walked past it toward the front doors, the shattered glass didn't look like a symbol of destruction anymore. It looked like the clearing away of debris, making room for a foundation that could finally be rebuilt correctly.
