Chapter 1

Ethan’s hands burned against the cold steel of the custom-made crib. The vertical metal bars, forged with chilling precision to mimic a prison cell, separated him from the only person he truly loved in this world. Inside the sunlit, upscale nursery, dust motes danced lazily in the afternoon light, mocking the suffocating horror of the scene. Clara, his heavily pregnant wife, sat curled on the nursery floor. Her dark hair was disheveled, clinging to tear-stained cheeks, and her hands protectively cradled her rounded belly.
Only moments before, Ethan had walked through the white double doors of his childhood home, expecting a warm family reunion after a grueling two-week business trip. Instead, he found his wife locked away like an animal. Standing just a few feet away was his mother, Beatrice, draped in an immaculate white business suit, her pearl necklace gleaming coldly against her throat. Beatrice’s expression remained utterly composed, devoid of any human empathy.
Ethan’s chest heaved with ragged breaths. The betrayal tasted like ash in his mouth. He looked from his mother’s frozen, indifferent face back to Clara’s desperate, tear-filled eyes. The silence in the room stretched, thick and suffocating, before Ethan found his voice.
“Mother... What have you done?” Ethan asked, his voice trembling with a potent mix of disbelief and escalating fury.
Clara looked up through the heavy bars, her voice a fragile, shuddering whisper. “Ethan... You came back.”
Beatrice adjusted the lapel of her expensive jacket, stepping forward with deliberate slowness. Her heels clicked sharply against the polished hardwood floor. She met her son’s furious gaze without a single flinch, radiating an eerie, calculated authority.
“She doesn't belong in this family, Ethan,” Beatrice stated coldly, her voice devoid of remorse.

Ethan’s knuckles turned bone-white as he gripped the bars tighter. The sheer audacity of his mother’s actions sent a surge of adrenaline through his veins. He didn't care about the wealth, the status, or the sprawling estate inherited from generations of ruthless ancestors. All that mattered was the woman he loved and the unborn child resting beneath her hands. Planting his feet firmly, Ethan strained his muscles, his jaw locked hard as he prepared to wrench the reinforced steel apart with his bare hands. He glared at his mother with unadulterated rage, his voice a low, gravelly vow.
“I'm getting you out of here.”
