Chapter 4

Arthur Vance stared at the titanium key fob, his face draining of color as the implications finally registered in his mind. He recognized the crest immediately; it was the master override key issued exclusively to the majority shareholder of Vanguard Global Holdings—a position that had supposedly been vacant since the quiet liquidation of the Lin family assets three years prior. He looked from the key to Maya, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly as he tried to reconcile the woman sweeping the courtyard downstairs with the supreme authority sitting across from him.
"This... this is an absurdity," Vance stammered, gripping the edge of the quartz table with whitening knuckles. "A forged security token does not grant entry into a legally binding shareholder assembly. We are in the middle of a critical emergency vote regarding corporate restructuring. Victoria, didn't you confirm that the Lin estate was completely liquidated?"
Victoria Chen swallowed hard, her eyes wide with mounting panic. She stood up abruptly, knocking her leather chair back against the glass wall. "She's an impostor!" Victoria shouted, her voice losing its usual polished cadence. "She’s just a disgruntled former employee playing a pathetic psychological trick! Look at her—she’s wearing cheap clothes! She doesn't belong in this room! Security, throw her out right now!"
Again, the guards remained perfectly still. Maya rested her hands flat on the table, her breathing slow and controlled. She didn't raise her voice, nor did she display any trace of anger. The contrast between Victoria’s frantic hysteria and Maya’s absolute composure was stark, instantly signaling to the rest of the board who actually held the upper hand. The other executives began to murmur among themselves, glancing nervously at Vance and distancing themselves physically from his side of the table.
"Victoria," Maya said softly, her voice cutting through the noise with effortless authority. "Raising your voice has never compensated for a lack of structural substance. Sit down before you embarrass yourself further. You always were far too eager to claim a victory before checking who actually owned the chessboard."

Maya reached into her pocket and slid a thick manila folder across the table toward the center. The label was stamped with the seal of the Federal Financial Regulatory Commission and countersigned by three senior federal judges. "Before Mr. Vance calls for his little emergency vote on liquidating the logistics division, I suggest everyone open page four of the distributed dossier. You will find a comprehensive forensic audit detailing the systematic embezzlement of corporate funds over the last thirty-six months—funds funneled directly into offshore accounts controlled by a shell company named Victoria Holdings LLC."
The room erupted into absolute chaos. Several board members snatched up the folders, their eyes scanning the legal documents with mounting horror. Arthur Vance lunged forward, trying to grab the folder, but the security officer nearest to him firmly placed a heavy hand on Vance’s shoulder, forcing him back down into his seat with quiet, irresistible pressure. Victoria slumped back into her chair, her crimson lipstick contrasting sharply against her chalk-white skin, realizing that every trap she had laid for Maya had been carefully repurposed into a noose around her own neck.
