Chapter 7: The Eviction Notice

Back at the glass estate, the heavy brass front door swung open with a resounding thud. Julian stood in the entryway, a heavy designer duffel bag slung over one shoulder, his face flushed with exhaustion and humiliation. Behind him, Elena descended the grand staircase, dragging a rolling suitcase that bumped loudly against the wooden steps. She looked utterly defeated, her hair pulled back into a messy bun, wearing a plain gray sweatshirt over her cream dress. They had twenty minutes to evacuate before the court-appointed property managers arrived to secure the premises.

Just as Julian reached for the handle of his luxury sports car parked in the driveway, a sleek black sedan pulled up smoothly behind it, blocking his exit. Two men in sharp charcoal suits stepped out of the vehicle, moving with the quiet, authoritative precision of professional liquidators. The taller of the two, a man with silver-streaked hair and a crisp clipboard, approached Julian with a completely neutral, professional expression.

"Mr. Julian Vance?" the man asked, his voice calm and entirely devoid of emotion.

Julian dropped his duffel bag onto the hot asphalt, stepping forward to block the man's path. "Who the hell are you? I am the owner of this property. I am leaving voluntarily, but you have no right to block my vehicle."

"Correction, Mr. Vance," the man replied, holding up the clipboard to display a certified digital seal. "I am Marcus Reed, senior receiver for Acrania Paddle Holdings. As of 9:15 AM, pursuant to emergency asset restructuring order 44-B, all vehicles registered under your corporate umbrella, including the sports car currently parked in this driveway, have been seized as collateral against outstanding fiduciary liabilities."

Julian stared at the document, his breath catching in his throat. "That's impossible! Those vehicles are leased through my primary commercial holding company!"

"Which was wholly owned by the residential parent trust," Marcus added smoothly, pen clicking as he finished a note on his clipboard. "Which was legally transferred to the primary beneficiary this morning. You have five minutes to remove your personal belongings from the vehicle before it is towed to the municipal impound lot."

Elena let out a sharp gasp, her hands flying to her mouth as she gripped the handle of her suitcase even tighter. "Are you telling us we have to walk out of here? We don't even have a car?"

Marcus didn't even blink, turning his calm gaze toward her. "There is a public transit stop three blocks down the boulevard, madam. Taxis are also available via your mobile applications, provided your personal credit accounts are still active."

Julian clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned stark white. He looked at his luxury home, then at the two professional liquidators standing like stone sentinels before him, and finally down at his empty hands. The illusion of his absolute power had evaporated into the morning air, leaving him exposed, penniless, and utterly powerless against the very system he had spent a lifetime trying to manipulate.
