Chapter 5: The Uninvited Guest

Inside the sunlit living room of the estate, Elena paced nervously near the cream-colored sofa, her hands trembling as she held a glass of water. The dramatic display outside the glass doors had terrified her, not just because Julian was locked out, but because the sudden realization of her own precarious position was finally sinking in. She had entered this relationship believing Julian was an untouchable king of the financial world, a man who could provide her with an effortless life of luxury and endless status symbols. Now, watching him slumped against the exterior office door like a broken beggar, she understood the terrifying truth of Claire’s parting words.

Julian had nothing. And by extension, Elena had nothing either.

The heavy front door suddenly clicked. Elena gasped, dropping her glass to the thick wool rug, where it shattered into a hundred sparkling fragments. She turned toward the entryway, expecting Claire or the police, but instead, the door swung open to reveal Julian himself, his face dark with fury as he strode into the room. He had finally managed to smash a side window of the utility shed, retrieving an emergency physical override key that bypassed the digital locks entirely.

"Julian! You scared me," Elena stammered, her voice shaking as she stepped back until the edge of the sofa pressed against her lower back. "What is happening? The lawyers... I heard you on the phone. Are we broke?"

Julian ignored her completely. He marched across the room, ripping off his navy blue suit jacket and throwing it violently onto the floor. His white dress shirt was wrinkled, his hair disheveled from pulling at it in sheer frustration. He looked at Elena not with affection or reassurance, but with a cold, calculating resentment, as if her very presence in his life was the primary catalyst for this catastrophic failure.

"Shut up, Elena," Julian snarled, his voice low and dangerous. "Just shut your mouth."

"You can't talk to me like that!" Elena fired back, her maternal survival instincts finally overriding her fear. She planted her hands on her hips, her pregnant belly pushing against the soft fabric of her cream dress. "I gave up my career, my apartment, everything for you! If you lost the house, where are we supposed to live? What about the baby?"

Julian stopped pacing. He turned slowly to face her, a bitter, humorless smile twisting the corners of his mouth. He stepped close to her, invading her personal space until she could smell the sour scent of his panic and sweat.

"The baby?" Julian laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "Don't talk to me about the baby, Elena. You were nothing more than a convenient accessory to annoy Claire, and now the showroom is closed. Pack your things. We have twenty minutes before the real estate management team shows up to change the physical locks for good."

Elena stared at him, the illusion of her golden future shattering completely around her feet. Without a word, she turned and ran up the grand staircase toward the master bedroom, leaving Julian alone in the ruins of his empty kingdom.
