Chapter 3: Securing the Evidence

Without a word, Viktor secured the baby bottle, sliding it carefully into the deep pocket of his black suit jacket. Clara’s eyes flicked to the movement, the first sign of genuine anxiety crossing her impeccably maintained features. Her lips tightened into a thin, pale line. Maya watched the exchange closely, noting every micro-expression. She knew that securing the physical evidence was only the first battle. In a world governed by wealth and influence, evidence could be misplaced, altered, or simply ignored if the right people applied enough pressure. But Maya was not about to let little Leo become another casualty of the Sterling family's dark, unspoken secrets.
Viktor turned to face Maya, his voice dropping to a low, commanding register. "Take Leo to the west wing nursery, lock the door, and do not open it for anyone. Not the staff, not my mother, not even for me, until I give you a direct word."
Maya nodded once, her eyes expressing a silent agreement. She turned on her heel, her white apron fluttering behind her as she hurried down the corridor, leaving Viktor and Clara alone in the grand hallway. The silence returned, heavier and more menacing than before. Viktor stared at his mother, the man who had built an empire on trust suddenly realizing his foundation was built on sand. Clara raised her chin, refusing to shrink beneath his accusing stare. She was an elder of the Sterling lineage, a woman who had buried a husband and managed a dynasty through sheer willpower. She would not be interrogated in her own home by her son.

"You are making a grave mistake, Viktor," Clara said softly, her voice carrying a chilling edge of finality. "Some doors are better left closed. For all our sakes."
Viktor did not blink. "If that bottle contains what Maya claims it does, Mother, the door isn't just open—it's off its hinges." He turned away, leaving her standing alone in the opulent corridor, while he walked toward his private study to uncover the truth that could destroy them all.
