Chapter 14: The Return to Wall Street

The black sedan tore through the quiet, damp streets of Lower Manhattan just as the first morning commuters began emerging from the subway stations. Inside the car, the atmosphere was charged with a tense, electric focus. Julian sat in the driver’s seat, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, while Maya rested comfortably in the passenger seat next to him, sipping a bottle of water he had retrieved from the glove compartment. Ajax curled up peacefully in the back, his heavy breathing providing a comforting rhythm to the chaotic surge of adrenaline coursing through Julian’s veins.
Within twenty minutes, the sleek sedan pulled up directly in front of the towering glass-and-steel skyscraper that housed Vance Global Headquarters on Wall Street. The morning sun was now fully breaking over the skyline, casting brilliant reflections across the polished granite facade. Julian killed the engine, turned to look at his daughter, and offered a gentle, reassuring smile.
“Wait for me in the executive suite upstairs with Dr. Aris,” Julian instructed softly, brushing a stray lock of light brown hair away from her forehead. “I have some very important business to attend to on the thirty-second floor.”

Maya nodded, her expression wise beyond her years. “Don't let them win, Daddy.”
Julian stepped out of the car, walking around to open the passenger door for Maya and the Doberman. They bypassed the stunned security guards in the lobby, who stared in absolute disbelief at the bedraggled child and the Doberman walking beside their billionaire CEO. Julian escorted them directly to the private elevator, swiping his master keycard to send them safely up to the secure penthouse office where Dr. Aris was waiting. Once the doors closed, Julian turned back toward the main lobby elevators, pressing the call button for the executive boardroom with a grim, unstoppable purpose.
