Chapter 13: The Gift of Reconciliation

Elena invited her grandmother to sit on one of the wooden benches near the flower beds. They sat together in comfortable silence, watching the rain tap gently against the glass roof.

""I spent my entire life protecting a name that didn't matter,"" Madam Sterling confessed, looking at her calloused hands. ""In the end, all I have left are my regrets.""

""It's never too late to change,"" Elena said softly. ""You can't undo the past, but you can choose how you live the rest of your days.""

With tears falling quietly down her face, the former matriarch nodded, taking the trowel and leaning down to touch the dirt—a humble act of redemption after a lifetime of cruelty.
