Chapter 2: The Founder's Arrival

The call connected with a mechanical click that sounded remarkably loud in the quiet room. Elena held the phone to her ear, maintaining unbroken eye contact with Evelyn, whose rigid posture faltered for a fraction of a second as she recognized the secure dialing tone reserved exclusively for top-tier executives and institutional founders. Dr. Elias Raymold answered on the second ring, his voice low, gravelly, and carrying the unmistakable authority of a man who owned the very ground beneath their feet.

Before Evelyn could lunge forward to snatch the device away, Elena spoke clearly into the speaker. "Your board member just tried to evict your granddaughter forcibly."

The words hung in the air like broken glass. Evelyn froze, her hand hovering inches from the bedsheets, her face draining of color until she looked remarkably like the bleached pillows behind Elena's back. The concept that Elias Raymold—the legendary, semi-retired patriarch of the hospital network who had distanced himself from daily operations years ago—could have any personal stake in Elena’s pregnancy was an impossibility Evelyn’s corporate logic could not process. Yet, the rapid, echoing footsteps outside the heavy oak door signaled an immediate and overwhelming shift in power.

The door swung open without a preliminary knock. Dr. Elias Raymold stepped into the room, his silver hair catching the fluorescent glare, his grey turtleneck visible beneath an unbuttoned white lab coat bearing his embroidered name and founder credentials. His expression was granite-hard, devoid of surprise, as if he had been expecting this exact confrontation for months. He raised a single hand, signaling the security personnel lingering in the hallway to hold their positions just outside the threshold.

"Evelyn," Elias said, his voice dropping an octave as he surveyed the torn ultrasound photo and the menacing posture of his longtime corporate associate. "It appears your enthusiasm for estate management has finally overstepped the boundaries of medical ethics and criminal law."

Evelyn swallowed hard, her mouth opening and closing as she searched for a plausible defense. "Elias, this is a private family matter. The girl is an opportunistic auditor who—"

"This girl," Elias interrupted smoothly, stepping closer to the bed and looking down at Elena with a gentleness that contrasted sharply with his freezing glare toward Evelyn, "carries the sole direct heir to the Raymold-Vance trust. And you, Evelyn, just authorized a forced medical discharge and coercion inside a facility bearing my name."

Elena watched the exchange with a measured calm, gently brushing her fingers over the torn edges of the ultrasound photo resting on her stomach. The trap had snapped shut, and neither Evelyn nor the vast corporate machinery behind her had any way out.
