The reception was subdued by mutual agreement, transformed into an intimate gathering of close friends at an estate overlooking the valley. The noise of legal proceedings and corporate restructuring awaited them tomorrow, but tonight belonged entirely to healing.
Lily danced on the lawn with her cousins, her laughter bright and carefree in the twilight. She wore Claire’s silver locket around her neck, tucked safely beneath her collar.
James joined Rebecca on the stone terrace, handing her a glass of sparkling cider. "Brody called. Higgins confessed within twenty minutes of interrogation. He’s turning state’s evidence on every transaction."
Rebecca leaned her head against his shoulder, letting out a long breath she seemed to have held for years. "It’s really over, isn't it?"
