Chapter 14: Deep Roots
Vance officially bought the carpentry shop from Elias. He stopped looking over his shoulder. He and Lily planted a small garden in the backyard. As they dug their hands into the rich, dark soil, planting tomato seeds, Vance thought about the smashed cake on the marble floor.
That life was sterile, cold, and dead. This life was messy, dirty, and profoundly alive.
""Will these grow big, Daddy?"" Lily asked, patting the dirt.
""Yeah, kiddo,"" Vance smiled, wiping a smudge of dirt from her nose. ""With enough time, and enough sunlight, they're gonna grow strong.""
