Chapter 7 - The Federal Raid

The heavy boots of the federal agents thundered against the polished hardwood floor, echoing sharply beneath the crystal chandeliers.
“Hands on your head! Do it now!” the lead agent shouted, rushing directly toward Marcus, who was still pinned to the floor by the groomsmen.
The two groomsmen scrambled backward, raising their hands in surrender as federal officers zip-tied Marcus’s wrists behind his back with ruthless efficiency.
Chloe froze in the center of the aisle, her mouth half-open in a silent scream. Two armed agents flanked her instantly, their tactical gear brushing against the delicate French lace of her wedding dress as they forced her to her knees.
“Chloe Vance—or whatever your real name is—you are under arrest for corporate espionage, wire fraud, and conspiracy,” the lead agent declared, reading her rights with cold, practiced speed.
“You can’t do this! I have rights! I’m marrying a billionaire!” Chloe shrieked, thrashing against the officers as they dragged her across the floor, leaving a streak of mascara and dirt on her pristine white train.
Julian didn’t move. He stood paralyzed in the aisle, the red emergency lights painting his black tuxedo in shades of blood and fire. The multi-million-dollar wedding he had meticulously planned for months had transformed into a crime scene in less than ten minutes.
On stage, little Leo stood quietly behind the microphone stand. He carefully placed the smartphone into the inner pocket of his black suit jacket, zipping it shut with neat, deliberate care.
The female lead agent walked briskly down the center aisle, ignoring the panicked murmurs of the elite wedding guests pressing themselves against the walls. She stopped a few feet away from Julian, her dark eyes sharp and assessing.
“Mr. Sterling?” she asked, flashing an official badge bearing the seal of the Department of Justice.
Julian swallowed hard, forcing his vocal cords to work. “Yes. I’m Julian Sterling. What is happening? How did you get here so fast?”
The agent gestured toward the stage, where Leo was stepping carefully down the wooden stairs, carrying his heavy microphone like a walking stick.
“Your son flagged our automated corporate security anomaly system three hours ago, Mr. Sterling,” the agent explained, a faint hint of professional respect in her voice. “He initiated an automated lockdown protocol and routed all encrypted transaction logs directly to our cyber crimes division.”
Julian’s knees felt weak. He turned his head slowly to look at his seven-year-old son, who was walking steadily toward him through the flashing red lights.
“Leo?” Julian breathed out, crouching down so he was eye-level with the boy. “You did all of this?”
Leo stopped two feet away. His expression remained completely flat, devoid of the triumph or fear a normal child would feel.
“You were too busy looking at her, Dad,” Leo said quietly, his voice cutting deeper than any knife. “Somebody had to protect the company Grandpa built.”
Before Julian could answer, the agent’s radio crackled loudly with a static-heavy transmission.
“Agent Miller, we have a problem at the downtown server farm,” a panicked voice reported over the radio. “The main vault doors are opening from the inside, and we have an unauthorized signature attempting to override the core backup.”
Agent Miller’s face went pale. She gripped her radio tightly.
“Who’s at the server farm? Everyone from the board was accounted for!” Miller demanded into her shoulder mic.
A heavy silence fell over the room as a familiar voice chimed softly from Leo’s jacket pocket.

The smartphone, still on, began to play an automated voicemail notification that nobody had noticed until now.
