Chapter 13 - Wall Street’s Wake-Up Call

The sharp, rhythmic notification chimes of three hundred smartphones suddenly erupted simultaneously across the Grandview Ballroom.
The wedding guests, who had been huddled anxiously near the walls, scrambled to pull their phones from their pockets, staring down at their screens in absolute shock.
Thomas Vance froze, his thumb hovering over the red toggle switch of the detonator. His golden-rimmed glasses slipped slightly down the bridge of his sweaty nose.
“What… what did you do?” Thomas stammered, his polished corporate composure cracking for the first time.
Leo stood tall beside the microphone stand, his small hands resting calmly against his sides.
“I didn't just broadcast the serial numbers to Wall Street, Thomas,” Leo said, his clear child’s voice carrying easily through the massive room. “I set a smart contract to automatically liquidate every single asset tied to your shell companies the moment you pressed that switch.”
Agent Miller didn't waste a second. While Thomas was distracted by the sudden flood of alerts on his own phone, she lunged forward with explosive speed, tackling him hard to the polished hardwood floor.
The detonator flew from Thomas’s hand, skidding across the floor and sliding safely under a heavy mahogany table.
Two tactical officers swarmed in immediately, pinning Thomas face down and snapping steel handcuffs onto his wrists with practiced roughness.
“You’re out of your mind, kid!” Thomas screamed, his face pressed against the floor as he glared venomously up at the stage. “You just destroyed billions in liquid capital! You’ve bankrupted the entire board!”
“No,” Julian corrected, stepping down off the stage and walking slowly toward the pinned lawyer. “He just saved what was honest.”
Julian looked down at Thomas with cold, unwavering detachment before turning his attention back to Agent Miller, who was hauling the frantic lawyer to his feet.
“Agent Miller, the estate basement,” Julian said urgently. “If Richard is still down there trying to salvage his wiped servers, he’s going to realize he’s been cornered.”
Miller nodded grimly, tapping her shoulder mic. “All units, this is Miller. Perimeter secure at the ballroom. Move tactical teams one and two to the Sterling estate immediately. Code red apprehension.”
As the federal agents escorted Thomas out into the rainy courtyard, the Grandview Ballroom finally fell into a profound, suffocating silence.
Julian turned back toward the stage. Leo was quietly unplugging the microphone, packing the smartphone neatly into the inner pocket of his black suit jacket as if he had just finished a routine school presentation rather than dismantling an international corporate conspiracy.
Julian climbed the wooden steps, closed the short distance between them, and dropped to one knee. He gently took his son’s small shoulders in his hands, his eyes shining with unshed tears.
“Leo,” Julian whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of intense pride and heartbreaking guilt. “I am so, so sorry. You should never have had to carry this burden.”
Leo looked down at his father, the cold, precocious armor melting away from his young face for a brief second, revealing the seven-year-old boy beneath the tight black suit.
