Chapter 8

With the boutique’s internal culture stabilized and Eleanor’s unexpected visit behind them, Maya and Marcus turned their complete focus back to the wedding preparations. The calendar pages turned quickly, bringing the crisp air of late autumn and the final rush of administrative details. Sitting at the mahogany dining table in their penthouse apartment, surrounded by seating charts, floral catalogs, and catering invoices, they faced one last logistical hurdle: the final guest list.
"We are officially at two hundred people," Maya announced, tapping the screen of her tablet with a stylus. "Which is fifty over our original budget, but the venue can accommodate it comfortably if we adjust the table layouts."
Marcus looked up from a stack of hotel booking confirmations for out-of-town family members. "Two hundred sounds like a lot, but when you look at the names, every single person represents a chapter of our journey. Family, early mentors, loyal employees, and close friends who stayed by our side through the lean years."
Maya smiled, highlighting a group of names near the bottom of the spreadsheet. "I invited Chloe and three of our senior tailors from the boutique. After everything we’ve been through together recently, they aren't just employees anymore; they’re our work family."
"That’s a great touch," Marcus agreed, taking a sip of his black coffee. "Speaking of family, my mother called this morning. She’s flying in three days early to help with the final dress fittings and make sure the traditional family recipes for the reception dinner are executed correctly."
Maya groaned playfully, dropping her head onto the table. "I love your mother dearly, Marcus, but her definition of 'helping' usually involves reorganizing my entire kitchen and questioning why I keep my spices alphabetically instead of by culinary frequency."
Marcus laughed heartily. "Consider it a rite of passage. She loves you like a daughter, which is why she feels entirely justified in critiquing your organizational systems."
The doorbell chimed, interrupting their domestic banter. Marcus stood up and walked to the entryway, unlocking the heavy oak door. Standing in the hallway was their wedding coordinator, Sarah, holding a large garment bag containing Marcus’s custom navy tuxedo, along with final swatches for the groomsmen’s attire.
"Evening, boss," Sarah said brightly, stepping into the foyer and shaking off her coat. "I brought the final fitting samples. We need Marcus to try on the jacket one last time to ensure the tailoring aligns with the final adjustments we made last week."
Marcus took the garment bag, thanking her as she joined Maya at the dining table to review the master timeline for the wedding day. The meticulous planning was finally converging into a seamless schedule. Every minute from hair and makeup to the final send-off sparkler exit had been mapped out with military precision.

Maya looked over the timeline, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over her. The chaos of the boutique incident felt like a distant memory, overshadowed by the genuine love, support, and community surrounding them. They had built something lasting, both in business and in life.
