Chapter 10

The morning of the wedding broke crisp and clear, with brilliant autumn sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the bridal suite at the luxury hotel downtown. Inside, the room was a flurry of organized activity. Hair stylists, makeup artists, and close friends moved with practiced efficiency. Classical instrumental music played softly in the background, keeping the atmosphere calm and grounded.

Maya sat in front of the illuminated vanity mirror, a silk robe draped over her shoulders while a makeup artist delicately dusted highlighter across her cheekbones. Her long dark curly hair was set in pin curls, waiting to be styled into an elegant, timeless updo.

Chloe stepped into the suite, carrying a steaming cup of chamomile tea and a small, beautifully wrapped gift box. She walked over to Maya and handed her the tea with a warm, congratulatory smile.

"Good morning, bride-to-be," Chloe said cheerfully. "How are we feeling?"

"I feel incredible, Chloe," Maya replied, taking a sip of the warm tea. "Excited, calm, and ready. How are things looking downstairs at the venue?"

"Everything is pristine," Chloe reassured her. "The floral arrangements arrived on time, the string quartet is tuning their instruments, and Marcus is already down in the groom’s suite looking entirely too dapper in his tuxedo."

Maya smiled, feeling a flutter of joyful anticipation in her chest. The journey that had brought her to this exact morning—from building the boutique from the ground up to confronting the ugly face of prejudice and finding grace in redemption—had all led to this moment. Every struggle had added depth to her character and strength to her relationship with Marcus.

Across the hotel hallway, in the groom’s suite, Marcus stood in front of a full-length mirror, adjusting the silk lapel of his custom tuxedo jacket. His best friend and best man, David, stood behind him, buttoning his vest and straightening his black bow tie.

"You clean up alright, Marcus," David teased with a grin, clapping him on the shoulder. "I remember when you used to wear oversized hoodies to our college basketball games."

"Times change, my friend," Marcus laughed, checking his reflection one last time. "And so do we. Today is the most important day of my life, and I intend to savor every single second of it."

"You ready for this?" David asked, his tone shifting from playful to sincere.

Marcus took a deep breath, looking out the window toward the botanical gardens where the ceremony would take place in just three hours. "More ready than I've ever been."

Back in the bridal suite, the time had come for the most anticipated moment of the morning preparation: putting on the dress. Sarah, the wedding coordinator, carefully unzipped the garment bag, revealing the pristine white sleeveless wedding dress that had witnessed the very beginning of their public triumph weeks ago.

Maya stood up, letting the silk robe fall away as Sarah and Chloe gently guided her into the gown.
