Chapter 14 - The Final Verdict

A year after the day Elias walked into Room 417, they found themselves sitting in Dr. Aris's office. Hannah's hair had grown back into a short, dark pixie cut. She walked without a cane now, though she still had a slight limp. Her right hand was weaker, but functional.

This was the one-year follow-up scan. The silence in the office was thick, mirroring the day they had received the diagnosis. Dr. Aris walked in, carrying a folder. Elias reached out and took Hannah’s hand. He felt the familiar, terrifying leap of his heart.

Dr. Aris sat down, opened the folder, and looked at them. A slow, genuine smile spread across his tired face.

"Clear," the doctor said. "The scans are completely clear. No evidence of disease."

Hannah let out a sound that was half-laugh, half-sob, burying her face in Elias’s shoulder. Elias squeezed his eyes shut, holding her fiercely, feeling the monumental weight of the past year lift off his chest.
