Chapter 12 - The Turning Point

The sharp crack of cartilage breaking echoed off the concrete walls of the silo as Bruno doubled over in agony, gasping for air. The heavy handgun slipped from his limp fingers, clattering loudly against the concrete floor before sliding into a dark puddle near the rusted machinery.

David didn't give the gunman a chance to recover. He followed up with a swift, devastating kick to Bruno’s chest, sending the heavy-set man crashing backward into a stack of wooden pallets with a resounding thud. Bruno groaned, his eyes rolling back as he slumped sideways, completely unconscious.

Across the room, Vance had Marcus pinned against the metal desk, his hand gripping the younger man's throat so hard Marcus’s face was turning a deep, dangerous shade of purple.

"You ruined everything, you incompetent idiot," Vance snarled, his polite veneer completely stripped away, revealing a desperate, violent criminal underneath. "Because of your family drama, my entire operation is compromised!"

"Let him go, Vance!" David shouted, closing the distance between them in three long strides.

Vance didn't release Marcus. Instead, he pulled a sleek, nickel-plated revolver from his shoulder holster with his free hand, leveling the barrel straight at David’s chest. The shiny metal caught the overhead halogen light, casting a blinding glare across the room.

Arthur stepped into the loading bay, breathing heavily, his old eyes scanning the chaotic scene. When he saw the gun pointed directly at his older son, the blood drained entirely from his face.

"Put the gun down, Vance," Arthur said, his voice trembling slightly with suppressed rage. "You already lost. The security feed was backed up to the cloud before my son's phone was smashed. The police are already on their way."

Vance’s eyes darted nervously toward the entrance for a fraction of a second. "You're bluffing, old man. There's no cell service out here in the industrial sector."

"Is that a fact?" a calm, chillingly familiar voice echoed from the shadows behind Vance.

Everyone froze. Elena stepped out from the doorway, holding a heavy professional radio transmitter—the kind used by harbor security patrols—with its emergency beacon light flashing a brilliant, blinding red.

"I called the harbor master five minutes before we pulled up," Elena said, her voice entirely steady for the first time all day. "The Coast Guard blockade is already securing the access road at the end of the pier. You aren't leaving this harbor, Vance."

Vance’s face contorted with absolute rage. He tightened his grip on Marcus's throat, pressing the barrel of the revolver against Marcus's temple.

"If I'm going down, I'm taking the whole damn bloodline with me," Vance hissed, his finger tightening visibly on the trigger.
