Chapter 13

The first snow of the season fell gently over the city, blanketing the rooftops and quiet streets in a pristine layer of white. Inside the cozy brick home, the nursery was completely ready, bathed in the soft glow of a bedside lamp. Clara sat in a comfortable rocking chair, knitting a small woolen blanket while listening to the crackle of the wood fire burning in the living room fireplace.

Mark walked in carrying a tray with two mugs of hot herbal tea, setting it down on the side table before pulling up a small stool to sit near her feet. He looked up at her with a tender, adoring expression that never seemed to fade.

“How are you feeling?” he asked gently, reaching out to touch her hand.

“Ready,” Clara replied, her voice filled with quiet confidence. “More ready than I’ve ever been for anything in my life.”

The trials, the corporate battles, the bitter confrontations in the glass-strewn office, and the shadows of the past felt like a lifetime away. They had walked through the fire and emerged on the other side with their values intact, their relationship stronger than ever, and their future secured by the unshakable foundation of truth.

“The hospital bag is packed by the front door,” Mark said with a reassuring smile. “And I’ve cleared my schedule for the entire month. Whatever happens, whenever it happens, I’m right here.”

Clara smiled, her heart swelling with gratitude for the man who had stood by her side through every terrifying and exhilarating moment of their journey. They had proven that even the most powerful corrupt empires built on deception can be dismantled by ordinary people armed with nothing more than courage, persistence, and an absolute refusal to look away from the truth.
