Chapter 12: The Second Lesson

The confrontation exploded with sudden, brutal velocity. The intruder lunged forward, throwing a heavy, unrefined right hook aimed directly at Mei’s jaw. The punch carried plenty of raw power, but it was telegraphic and completely devoid of defensive recovery. Mei did not attempt to block it with brute force. Instead, she executed a lightning-fast downward parry, redirecting the momentum of his fist outward while sliding effortlessly inside his extended guard.
Before the man could register that his punch had missed its mark, Mei drove the heel of her palm straight upward into his chest plate. The impact produced a sharp, concussive thud that knocked the wind straight out of his lungs. As he stumbled backward, gasping for air, Mei didn't stop. She pivoted on her heel, sweeping her leg low in a tight, devastating circle that caught the back of his knees. The heavy man collapsed like a felled tree, crashing hard against a display of bagged chips that rained down colorful packaging all over the floor.
His partner near the door panicked, pulling a heavy metal pipe from inside his jacket and rushing forward to intervene. But Mei was already moving. She used the momentum of her spin to launch herself off the linoleum, delivering a soaring side kick that connected squarely with the second man’s wrist. The metal pipe flew out of his hand, clattering noisily across the tiles and sliding deep under the refrigeration unit. Before he could process the disarming, Mei landed smoothly, stepped inside his guard, and delivered a swift, concussive elbow strike to his solar plexus.

The second man doubled over instantly, his eyes rolling back in shock as he slumped against the magazine rack, sliding down until he sat panting on the floor next to his partner. Within less than ten seconds, both street enforcers had been completely neutralized, reduced to gasping wrecks amidst scattered potato chips and comic books.
Mei stood amidst the mess, her breathing slightly elevated but entirely under control. She adjusted the collar of her blue employee vest, her face maintaining its absolute, unshakable composure. She looked down at the two groaning men, her gaze piercing through their remaining bravado. "Tell whoever sent you," Mei said softly, her voice carrying a chilling authority, "that this store is closed. Permanently, to people like you."
