Chapter 9: The Garden of Healing

With the trial behind them, Claire decided not to return to the cold grandeur of the main Hawthorne Manor.
Instead, they decided to renovate an old, sunlit stone farmhouse on the outer boundary of the estate, turning it into a permanent home. Claire designed the gardens herself, creating open stone pathways, wildflower meadows, and a massive timber conservatory filled with rare orchids and jasmine.
The twins thrived in the open air. Their night terrors gradually faded, replaced by the normal, joyful mischief of young boys.
One Saturday afternoon, Andrew arrived home from the corporate office early, carrying a worn wooden case.
He found Claire kneeling in the dirt, planting young apple saplings with the boys.
""What is that?"" Claire asked, brushing rich soil off her gardening gloves.
Andrew opened the case to reveal a restored vintage cello—the very instrument Claire had played during her conservatory days before her life was derailed.
""I found it in the storage vaults in Geneva,"" Andrew said softly. ""The case was damaged, but the wood inside was completely untouched.""
Claire touched the polished maple body of the cello. Her fingers, once accustomed to cleaning rags and scrubbing brushes, found the fingerboard naturally, as if answering an ancient call.
